    • understand what muscle is made of, from myofibers down to the molecular level,
    • be able to understand the different types of muscles and muscle fibres, and
    • be introduced to the mechanism of muscle contraction.

    In this chapter you will be introduced to the different types of hypertrophy and how training stimulates muscle hypertrophy.

    By the end of this chapter you will,

    • understand the two types of muscle hypertrophy,
    • know the different training regimes to trigger the different hypertrophy responses, and
    • understand the stimulus that triggers hypertrophy.
